The Internet is a marvelous creature, but it can be a frightening one as well. In years past, before the Internet was a household activity, parents only had to worry about people in their general vicinity when it came to their children. Once the Internet took off though, predators had a much easier time when it came to picking out their prey. It could definitely be a lot worse than what it is though, and we have people like Baroness Joanna Shields to thank for that. She is responsible for making the Internet a place where children are safe rather than targeted by predators.
She is the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Internet Safety and Security, and that comes with a lot of responsibility. There are a lot of things that parents can do to educate their children, but there are always going to be predators who are one step ahead of not only the children but the parents as well. Thankfully, there are people like Ms. Shields who make it their life work to making the Internet a safer place for all of us. There is a good bit of online abuse, and she and her workers are often one step ahead of a lot of the predators.
Because of the tireless work that Baroness Shields does, it is much harder for predators to find children to exploit on the Internet. It is harder for online abuse to occur as well as bullying. That is one of the top things that happen to children in today’s world, so it makes sense that it would carry over into the online world as well. Because of Ms. Shields’ work, parents can breathe a little easier about letting their children go online. They still need to educate them about online safety, but they no longer need to feel like they are in this fight alone.
